University professors entitled to gratuity under the Gratuity Act

Kerala High Court in Cochin University of Science and Technology vs. Dr.P.V. Sasikumar W.P. No. 7931/2022, upheld the order of controlling authority appointed under the Gratuity Act allowing the payment of gratuity to the professor holding that the Central Government in exercise of the powers conferred Section 3(1)(c) of the Gratuity Act extended the provisions of the Gratuity Act to educational institutions employing 10 (ten) or more persons and also by virtue of the amendment made in the Gratuity Act the definition of ’employee’ has been widened to include teachers as well.
