Government of Assam through order dated 6.6.22 granted exemption to the workers of the tea factories in the state of Assam from applicability of Section 51 (weekly hours), Section 54 (daily hours) and Section 56 (spread over) of the Factories Act, 1948 for a period of 4 (four) months with effect from July, 2022 to October 2022 to deal with exceptional pressure of work during the peak of the manufacturing season subject to the compliance of following conditions: (a) total number of hours of work in any one day shall not exceed 12 (twelve); (b) total spread over inclusive of interval of rest shall not exceed 13 (thirteen) hours in any one day; (c) the total number of hours of work in any week including overtime shall not exceed 60 (sixty); (d) no worker shall be allowed to work overtime for more than 7 (seven) days at a stretch and the total number of hours of overtime work in any quarter shall not exceed 75 (seventy five).
