While rethinking synergy, in the age of uncertainty at the workplace, where volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) define the HR landscape, traditional paradigms of efficiency and linear collaboration are no longer sufficient. While Collaboration typically leads to a predictable sum (2+2=4), innovation introduces non-linearity, potentially yielding 2+2=5. However, unchecked dysfunctions such as social loafing or structural misalignment can degrade synergy to 2+2=3, eroding competitive advantage. This article introduces the Synergy-5 framework, which transcends conventional HR models by integrating Surplus, and Sustainable Development into organisational strategy. This framework emphasizes five key dimensions i.e., Standardization, Success, Self-esteem, Self-development, and Survival-essential for competing and excelling in the VUCA world with VUCA solutions viz., Vision, Understanding, Clarity, and Agility.
