Bengaluru-based AI tech support startup, Saarthi.ai, to achieve profitabilityhas reportedly terminated employees and withheld salaries, causing concern among the employees.The company claims that these measures were taken under “investor pressure” to achieve profitability.
Founder and CEO Vishwa Nath Jha admitting the terminations, stated that the company had to restructure its team due to technological advancements and the need to automate certain tasks to meet investor demands for profitability. However, he did not disclose the exact number of employees impacted by the the exercise.
In response to the salary withholding issue, Jha clarified that the full and final settlement for some early batches of employees who were let go has already been cleared. He assured that the remaining employees’ salaries will be settled within 90 days, as per the company’s policy, and the company is actively working with investors to resolve the matter.
An employee from startup social media platform, Grapevine, claimed on social media that Saarthi.ai has not paid salaries to its employees since March 2023. The post alleged that employees, numbering around 140, have been given false hopes of receiving their salaries soon. The employee also emphasized that while the senior management continues to receive payment, others are left without their wages. The fear of not receiving the backlog salary prevents employees from speaking out against the situation.
