That India has passed through several millennia of existence from the time of the Harappan culture to now is a documented fact of history. Architecture, literature, and anything else which is open to time’s scrutiny stand as evidence to it. Techniques of carbon dating and otherwise have provided scientific testimony to this aspect of human life in this part of the world.
It is obvious that developed life was available in India several centuries before the Harappan culture, or else the Harappan culture would not have seen the peaks of glory which its architecture, town planning, and other components show. It is not as if other ancient civilizations of similar antiquity did not exist. However, the uniqueness of Indian civilization lies in the continuity of evidenced human habitation, with a glorious track record of growth down the several centuries of history from then to now. The world’s oldest living city, Varanasi, is in India, and even with a well-authenticated continuous chronology, it is still overdue for recognition.
