Leaders who create and promote fun at workplace have seen camaraderie, productivity, innovation and bonding shoot up among teams. Don’t we all remember that one class teacher, that one college professor who made us learn through fun way and never wanted to miss that class. Don’t we all remember that one Manager who was fun to work with and made going to work lovable every single day. That is what leaders do to teams by participating and involving teams to participate in team bonding activities, fun at work, sports, team meets and much more. They ensure all are included, all are heard, all are comfortable and all are valued.
You will see, these are leaders who will takeout time and come to your birthday celebrations, monsoon celebrations, Diwali celebrations at work, and wish teams and make them feel special, will genuinely connect with them and make them talk and laugh. These are the same leaders who would with enthusiasm celebrate all team bonding and fun activities at work. They would love to spend time with you during offsite and know you more, they would participate in all your fun events just to be there around you and motivate you to participate. Do you remember that one leader who did not really enjoy dancing, but danced all through the party on a reward night just to be with teams and be one among you, that is what great leaders do, it is about you and not about them, that is how they become your cheer leader.

These leaders do things differently to involve teams and put them first. For them it is not a tick box activity, they do things genuinely for people. You would have noticed, here are few things they do
Take Out Time
They know how and when to take out time and be there for you. They will anchor, host and celebrate you. Create those moments for teams to come together, they clearly drive the point that you are important and everything revolving around you is important.
It is people first and profit later for great leaders and great companies. When employees are happy they see that your clients are happy, if you clients are happy they refer more clients to you, when more clients come you have more business, you have more growth. There is joy across and there is a sense of accountability and pride when you are part of the success story.
Fun while you work
They know work and has to go hand in hand. Do you remember that story of a young boy who wanted to settle down before he could buy his favourite bike. If you don’t know the story, there was a young boy in college, he wanted to get a job and then buy a bike, when he got a job, he wanted to get promoted before he got the bike, when he actually got promoted, he thought of saving money and then buying a bike so he did not have to take a loan, when he actually saved money to buy a bike, he thought he would save more so he could buy a better model of the bike, then when he saved more money he thought it is better to save more and buy a car rather than a bike. That is what happens if you wait to settle down. Same logic applies at work it is never finish the work and then celebrate. Celebrations should be part of your work.
Celebrating Milestones
Don’t we all cherish those special milestones of our lives and recreate it and relive it every year and celebrate it. That is what great leaders do, they know how to replay those milestones for you, create more milestones for you. They understand the importance of all those things that matter to you and they remember and celebrate those with you.
They know when to pause and when to push
You must have worked with leaders, who would know if you had a good or a bad day by just looking in to your eyes. They get your pulse by just observing you, they know when to pause and when to push. They put you first, your family first and your priorities first, by doing that they clearly drive a point that you matter. When you are put first, you know the accountability you carry and you would do everything possible to make your leader proud.
They know happy employees make happy workplaces
It is people first and profit later for great leaders and great companies. These are simple but effective ways to put your people first. These cannot be driven as an agenda based, scripted programs. It has to be driven genuinely if you want this to work. You just take care of your people they will take care of everything else for you.
