Overtime Wages for National and Festival Holidays
Overtime wages entitlement for working on National or Festival holidays in case of commercial establishments differ from the Industrial Establishments. States have their own laws in this respect.

National Holidays are the domain of the Central Government, and the Festival Holidays are guided by the local customs and traditions in practice celebrated in different parts of the States differently on different occasions and with different names. Three National Holidays, i.e., Republic Day, Independence Day and Mahatma Gandhi Birthday are common on Pan India basis, and Festival Holidays are different in different States.

It is a general query that what extra wages (overtime wages) should be paid to its employees for working on National and Festival holidays in different States. The nature of business of some establishments is such that they are open 365 days in the year, which includes working on all National and Festival Holidays.

Paid leaves and holidays are granted to the employees by the employer under the force and command of relevant laws.
