Maharashtra Proposes Amendments in Shops Rules

The Government of Maharashtra on August 2, 2023,  proposed amendment to the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2018 (“Maharashtra Shops Rules“). The key amendment proposed to the Maharashtra Shops Rules imposes additional compliance burden on the employer, as the employer will now have to provide “insurance certificate of establishment” while submitting application for registration under Form A, application for renewal of registration certificate under Form D, application for intimation under Form F. Further, the employer while uploading the annual return in Form R will now be required to provide insurance policy number and date of validity of insurance policy of establishment.
