With the dynamic changes in the marketplace, it is the prerogative of the management to take calls which are unconventional but help the organisation to manage itself in tough times and set the foundation for a better tomorrow. Settlement discussion and structure must allow themselves to be directed by the realities of the situation, which is usually evolving and rarely static.

Collective bargaining is a process of negotiation between employer and a group of employees aimed at agreements to regulate wages, working conditions, welfare and benefits and other aspects of rights of workmen. The interests of the workmen are commonly espoused by Trade Unions. Long Term Wage Agreements are the outcome of collective bargaining process.

International Labor Organization’s (ILO) declaration on fundamental principles and rights at work defines “freedom of Association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining” as essential right of workmen. Thus, Collective bargaining is recognized through various human rights conventions and by Judiciary of various countries.
