HDFC Bank Kolkata online meeting video of abusing employees bring back focus on work culture

HDFC Bank reportedly  suspension of  one of its officers in Kolkata on 5 June after the video meeting   clip of bullying and using abusing language and   shouting went viral in social media has once again bring back focus on work culture of private banks . In video call frustration of  cluster head  can be seen  by  asking the branch personnel to sell the insurance policies in a definite number per day. His loud voice and anger is indicative of the pressure he might be having on him  to deliver the targets to his bosses.

The officer in question is Pushpal Roy, who was the cluster head in a Kolkata branch of the HDFC bank.

In the video it is seen how the cluster head  is using offensive language towards the branches’ junior personnel during the meeting.  He was asking about how many accounts were opened last days ? The tone and tenor of the head is quite threatening and intimidating.

After watching video,  people started commenting on the “toxic” work culture of the bank and professionals were seen venting out their anger on social media against the bank working culture  and the cluster head style of functioning.

One person commented, “ Is it a great place to work for?” Another said, “scary and quite intimidating.” Someone might be  having similar experience commented, “nothing new, it happens every day, the hue and cry is happening because it has come in public. Relationship managers and sellers are daily given target of selling insurance products and credit cards. The employees working in bank are nothing more than a sales person from cashier to manager.” Commented one. To complete the forced targets, policies and other products are sold on mis information.

As reported in Money Control, HDFC Bank provided a statement to Moneycontrol regarding the incident, stating that they were aware of a social media report. Following a preliminary inquiry, the bank suspended the concerned employee and launched a thorough investigation in accordance with the bank’s conduct guidelines. The bank emphasised its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of workplace misconduct and expressed a commitment to treating all employees with dignity and respect.

People commented the action of  suspension  of cluster head is nothing  but a damage control 0065ercise by the management  which caused negative impact on the bank branding.
