Welcome to The Third Eye - a column where I, your friendly neighbourhood search consultant, take a humorous, sardonic look at the bewildering world of Human Resources. From a perch high above the trenches, I observe the intricate, often amusing or even absurd dance between employees and employers, free from the direct impacts of labyrinthine policies or management conundrums. Neither fish nor fowl and with a foot in neither camp, I see the grand spectacle of HR for what it truly is-or at least how it appears through the lens of someone on a never-ending quest for that elusive "perfect fit." This rare perspective allows me to explore the quirks, eccentricities, and often maddening intricacies of HR with equal parts honesty and irreverence. So, join me (a curious observer) as we navigate the exhausting yet endlessly entertaining world of Human Resources-through the discerning gaze of The Third Eye.

The CHRO is rushing from his office to address a session on “Talent Crunch” at a five-star hotel organized by a famous HR network. As he heads towards the elevators, his mind is going through all the latest statistics related to the top challenges faced by employees and the potential Talent Crunch facing employers, even as they adapt and experiment with new ways of working.

As he is about to press the elevator button, in hops the AVP who handles Compensation, In a very meticulously planned and well-rehearsed manner, he casually discusses the new Assistant Manager, who doesn’t deliver, is too slow, and isn’t able to deal with the stress. “Can he be moved to the Talent Acquisition Team?” The CHRO assures him that he will move the guy to another team! With a sigh of relief, the AVP hops off to the next floor, victorious to have gotten rid of the non-performer. With a sinking feeling the CHRO wonders, if the general perception is that such managers can’t survive anywhere, except in the Talent Acquisition Team!
