Exemption of IT Sector from Standing orders in Karnataka
There still exist disagreements over the applicability of the Standing Orders Act over the exempted industries as only the POW Act seems to have been made applicable over the establishments under the Karnataka Shops Act.

The Government of Karnataka vide Notification No. LD 328 LET 2023 dated 10.06.2024 has exempted IT/ITeS/ Startups/ Animation/Gaming/Computer Graphics/ /Telecom /BPO /KPO /other knowledge-based industries from the applicability of the Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946 (“Standing Orders Act”) for a further period of 5 years from the date of publication of the said Notification in the Official Gazette. This extension has been made in continuation of the Notification No. LD 194 LET 2016 dated 25.05.2019 whereby the Government had exempted the above stated industries from the applicability of the Standing Orders Act for a period of five years which expired on 24.05.2024. It is imperative to note that the Government initially exempted the IT/ITeS industries from the applicability of the Standing Orders Act back in 1999 and had thereafter renewed the exemption several times till date.
