Telangana High Court in APCPDCL vs. Sri Lavuri Srinu (CA No. 5494/2013), rejecting the contentions of employer that apprentice trainee designated under the Apprentice Act, 1961, is not a workman and he is not entitled for compensation under the Employees’ Compensation Act, 1923, observed that Section 16 of the Compensation Act, makes it clear that the employer is liable to pay compensation for the injuries caused to the apprentice, by accident arising out of and in the course of his training and hence, the deceased can be treated as workman under the Compensation Act, and he is entitled for compensation.
