India’s leading fashion company, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) announced the appointment of Shobha Ratna Tanniru as Chief Human Resources Officer with effect from December 15, 2023.
According to the company’s exchange filing, it is stated, “we are pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Shobha Ratna Tanniru, as Chief Human Resources Officer (Designate), Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, Senior Management Personnel of the Company with effect from December 15, 2023. She will take on the role of Chief Human Resources Officer from February 16, 2024. Shobha joins us from Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance where she was Head – HR & Training and Chief Operations Officer.”
Shobha joined the Aditya Birla Group in 2008 and has done multiple roles including as the Group Head – Leadership Development. In her current role she is Head HR – Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance, including a hybrid role of managing the operations function additionally. Shobha brings over 28 years of HR expertise in talent and leadership management. Her proficiency in core HR processes, focusing on talent and culture, will further support the growth of the fashion retail subsidiary.

Under her leadership, the HR team at Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance has very ably supported the scale up of the business operations with the addition of new channels and partnerships.
Before joining the Aditya Birla Group, Shobha worked with Unilever for 12 years.
A Civil Engineer from Regional Engineering College, Calicut, Shobha also has a Master’s in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Shobha was the winner at the Aditya Birla Group’s Chairman’s Award in 2017 as an Accomplished Leader.
