In India, women account for 30% of the organised retail workforce, and this number is expected to grow as companies prioritize diversity. However, challenges like gender pay gaps and limited leadership representation persist, with women holding only 15% of executive roles in retail.
The rise of the gig economy is providing more women with flexible work options, with over 25% of gig workers in India being women. This shift offers greater work-life balance, yet issues like job insecurity and unequal pay continue to need attention. Globally, women make up 42% of the online gig economy, highlighting the role flexibility plays in empowering women.

In sectors like human resource outsourcing, supply chain, and healthcare, women are increasingly taking leadership positions. Women now represent 20% of the workforce in India’s supply chain sector, and in healthcare, they account for 24% of employees. Despite these advancements, women still face barriers in advancing to senior positions, especially in tech-driven sectors.
To achieve true gender equality, businesses must take actionable steps: focus on pay parity, create mentorship programs, establish leadership pathways, and invest in inclusive policies. We must continue to dismantle the barriers that hinder women’s progress, ensuring they have equal opportunities to lead, innovate, and thrive in every sector.”
