When I talk about HR, I do not see it as Human Resources. For me, HR stands for Honesty in Relationships. This perspective shifts the focus from merely managing resources to fostering genuine, trust-based interactions.

Honesty, as we know is a powerful trait, however most of us are apprehensive about handling it. Yet, embracing and practicing honesty is bound to lead you onto the success path and can help you achieve your professional and personal goals as well! My life’s journey is a testament to this fact.

I have often been termed as rude and arrogant for ‘speaking my  mind.’ While people who know me closely appreciate my honesty but those who are fearful of handling the truth, often dismiss my frankness as haughtiness. Since my boyhood days, I have diligently followed my father’s advice which was “speak honestly – say what you mean and be bold enough to ask questions.” I never believed in hiding my feelings whether it was appreciating a colleague’s work or condemning them for a substandard job. Being honest can prick a person at times but it may not essentially hurt them if you convey it by being mindful of your tonal quality(without raising your voice) and by adding a prelude (your positive intentions as an introduction will work wonders).

Honesty in a relationship is essentially about the trust and belief you exhibit and establish with others. Similarly, others will reciprocate the same towards you. As an HR professional, I not only practice this but try to imbibe this skill amongst my team members at Layam. It is imperative to mention here that Layam Group, was started by me to help others with utmost honesty and sincerity.

True to our tagline of being a Catalyst for Growth, we have fostered strong relationships with our clients and candidates alike in the last 17 years of our existence. As a veteran HR professional, I take pride in the fact that I am a man of deep integrity. Having said that, I try my best to create an amiable atmosphere for my employees wherein they can freely exchange their ideas and thoughts. This practice has enhanced team spirit and nurtured workplace productivity bringing several laurels and rewards for our work.

Honesty has always been the driving force, be it while serving our innumerable clients or helping our candidates achieve their career goals.

Needless to say, honesty in relationships essentially hinges on the trust and belief people place in you. Here are four essential tips for individuals who want to embody this ethos, irrespective of you being  in an HR role:

    • By understanding your strengths, weaknesses, and motivations, you can better understand and support others.
  2. Be Honest to Become a True ‘HR’
    • Honesty in relationships means being transparent, genuine, and truthful. This builds a foundation of trust that is essential in both personal and professional spheres.
  3. Focus and Develop the Skill of Empowerment
    • Empowerment, is not a complex term. It is about giving others the confidence and tools they need to succeed. By doing so, you contribute effectively and help others realize their potential.
  4. Empathize and Be Compassionate
    • Positive motivation is possible by genuinely showing compassion and empathy. In HR or any other sphere of work, people must feel understood and valued. This not only enhances workplace engagement but will lead to a more productive and congenial workplace.
