In one of the landmark study, involving more than 20,000 new hires and 1,400 HR Executives to determine why new hires fail, Leadership IQ discovered that 89% of hiring failures stem from attitudinal issues and not a candidate’s lack of skill. And what’s the most common interview question asked by the hiring managers at any company? It’s “Tell me about yourself”. Does it reveal anything substantive about a candidate’s attitude? Definitely not, as most of the candidates have a canned answer ready. And since all those canned vacuous answers sound basically the same, it’s nearly impossible to differentiate great and terrible candidates based on those answers.
