A transfer may be defined as a change in the job within the organisation where the new job is substantially equal to the old in terms of pay, status and responsibilities. Transfers are possible from one department to the other or from one plant to the other. A transfer implies a lateral movement of an employee in the hierarchy of positions with a similar salary or pay and status. An employer has a right to transfer an employee for administrative reasons or according to the service rules as it is an incidence of service. Transferring from one place to other is necessary for the interest of the organisation and to make maximum use of the efficiency of the employee. In fact, the transfer is considered to be a mild form of punishment most of the time. It is used due to poor performance or the erratic behaviour of an employee. An employer can transfer the services of such an employee to a remote or inconvenient place.
