Dr. Vinita Sahay, Founder Director IIM Bodh Gaya in conversation with Dr. Rajeshwari Narendran, a veteran HR management academician, talks about the challenges of institution building, leadership and ways to break the glass ceiling. Excerpts from the Interview :

When you look back the starting point of your career, how this journey has been and how you could break the glass ceiling?

VS I still remember my first class as a teacher more than two and half decades ago, wherein the average age of the student was more than mine and it has been very exciting journey full of learning till date. It is not easy for women as work-life balance is a major challenge. Even though diversity and inclusion have become the buzz words in organisations today, glass ceiling still exists the situation has improved in recent times with the number of women in C-level suite positions increasing over 10 percent in the last five years. In Academic fraternity luckily there is a very fair representation of women at the entry level. Today out of 20 IIM’s we have three women Directors, however, all these appointments happened in last 4 years only after more than six decades of existence.

is the second women in the country appointed by the Government of India to head IIM Bodh Gaya. She joined IIM Bodh Gaya as the Founder Director. Prior to joining IIM Bodh Gaya, she was Professor of Marketing at IIM Raipur and worked at different capacity as Chairperson (International Relations), Chairperson (Doctoral Program) and Chairperson (Students Affairs). She is Member of Board Of Management Studies, AICTE and also Chairperson in several committees constituted by UGC.
With about 26 years of experience, she has published and presented a large number of research papers in International/National journals/ conferences and book chapters and edited five books.
