Ten years or a decade has been passed. The law against sexual harassment of women at workplace was enforced on 9th Dec. 2013. It is time to take a stock of situation in society as a whole. Is there any impact visible of this law at workplace or in society? Have instances of sexual harassment against working women reduced? Do women feel more safe and secure at workplace and work with dignity and respect? Is the present law requires changes/modifications based on the decade experience?
These are few issues that need to be understood in correct perspective.
Reports are there to indicate that sexual harassment cases are on rise. It can be interpreted in two ways. One- cases are being reported because women are well aware of their rights and no longer tolerate this nonsense. By and large they have learnt to speak up against this evil. Second – Even after PoSH law in place, it has failed to contain the evil. Rise in cases is an indication. There seems no deterrence.
